Tool Wall Panels

By Stephanie Shipman

In perhaps the cutest configuration of tools we've ever seen, our friend Steph Shipman made this pair of wooden tool plaques out of scrap oak wood from an old staircase. The colorfully painted wood pieces make up some of our favorite hand tools: a hammer, pincers, wrench, and screwdriver. The two can be hung or displayed in a variety of configurations, or keep one and give the other to your builder BFF!

Materials: Oak wood and paint

About the artist:

Stephanie Shipman has been building since the age of 14, and is the founder and proprietor of the women's woodworking enterprise And I Build It With My Vagina. She majored in set design and worked in the scene shop at Macalester College, leading her to an internship at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2004 where she built elaborate scenery, including the Tony Award winning set for American Idiot. Shipman then joined Five Ton Crane, an Oakland-based arts collective that boasts large-scale interactive art installations. In 2014, she joined the staff at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design and then began leading all-female building classes. In between building big art and teaching, Steph builds custom creations for her clients. More info:
